Programme notes from the Festival Director, Ian Storror, who 2 years ago celebrated 40 years of putting on Jazz gigs:

The inaugural programme will be varied and accessible, offering a broad mix of Jazz styles to suit different tastes.

Opening Friday night will be leading saxophonist Alan Barnes, a performer of more than five decades and widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest reed players. He is also known for bringing a distinctive sense of humour to his performances.

Alan will be joined by the ‘All-Stars’ a Bristol-based group featuring some of the South West’s finest instrumentalists:

Jonny Bruce – trumpet (Moscow Drug Club, Pee Wee Ellis, London Swing Orchestra), 

Jim Blomfield – piano & keys (Asere, Buena Bristol Social Club, Andy Sheppard)

Riaan Vosloo - bass (Gregory Porter,  Jamie Cullum & Nostalgia 77, Matthew Bourne)

Andy Hague -drums & trumpet (Portishead, Pee Wee Ellis, Mike Westbrook’s Uncommon Orchestra)

The quintet will open the festival with two sets.

Supper will be provided by the Radford Mill catering team, using produce from the farm.

Saturday is a full-day programme running from 12.30pm to 11pm.

Daytime acts will include: the Ben Kerrigan Trio, Woodwerk, and several others to be announced. Evening performances will feature, Silverado, a six-piece band playing the music of the legendary Blue Note pianist Horace Silver; followed by a Latin set from the amazing Saoco Collective.

Sunday will feature a Jazz brunch with the ‘The Mendip Swing Big Band’ featuring vocalist Lucy Moon, they will be performing two sets from 1pm to 3.30pm.

While we are here, we highly recommend the local Priston Music Festival. Priston is not far from Radford Mill and the festival is a wonderful weekend of live music and good company, put together by Owain and Sue, who helped us considerably when we put on the two Tangled Festivals.

For those who are in or near London, on Sunday 20th September the great Sarah Jane Morris will be bringing her Sisterhood project to the Union Chapel. She has researched and written songs for many of the great female singer songwriters (including Dolly Parton). This concert is one with which our Piggery sound engineer Paul is involved, and some of the proceeds will be going towards the chapel's asylum seeker charity work, so if you can get to it (such a fine venue with great views wherever you are seated) you will be supporting the good work of the chapel as well as the good work of Paul!

Singers take note: there are opportunites to be part of Sarah Jane's choir!
